"PEACE" the lamb

This is the story of a little lamb who was born and left out in the snow. It was a very exciting day for me, the city slicker, who, being in charge of feeding the animals at the Zerkel Farm, came across this poor tiny creature who's mother had no idea how to take care of him. I had been given instructions as to what to do "just in case" there were any lambs, but I never expected to be called upon to actually perform life saving maneuvers!

I did manage to get him and his airhead mother into the barn, but couldn't get them into the special protective pen together, so I thought I was leaving him to certain death, but LOOK, he is ALIVE! I am so happy. I named him "Peace" because I spoke the words "grace and peace" over him as I was trying to get his mother to notice him. And we all know that words have power. Yes, they do.

Start to Finish Fiber

This was really fun, I took the wool fiber, dyed it in my microwave (the one I have that is only used for dying, not food) then pulled the fiber out into "pencil roving," spun it into yarn on a drop spindle, then knit it up, just to see what it would look like. I think I'll make some hand warmer mits since there isn't really very much yarn and it's really cold in this old building! Click on the picture to see a larger version of the steps.

"Earthentic" Men's Ties

Our new label, "Earthentic" contains a line of organically dyed silks. These are men's ties, dyed with things like rust, black tea, vinegar, red cabbage and walnut. Beautiful, subtle changes of color (and the knowlege that they are earth friendly) makes for a wonderful Father's Day gift.

Created by Karla Cosand of Williamsville, IL, this flashy bracelet is made from small squares of dichroic glass that shimmer and change colors as they move. Karla makes earrings, pendants and bracelets. She also shows her work at the Blue Door in Springfield, IL.

Wood Artist, Thom Pabst of Greenville makes these whimsical boxes of walnut and other fine woods. The multiple drawers are flocked on the inside. This one is made from an interesting piece of walnut that had a white stripe which he used to it's best advantage, creating a unique, one-of-a-kind box for jewelry or small valuables. It is 9" x 5.5".
